Today's Theme: Quotations
Sergeant at Arms Lee Parker introduced Sara King as the day’s Toastmaster. She welcomed all and introduced Invocator Mark Laugisch, who shared a motivational story. Jokemaster April Young shared three short jokes, and Wordmaster Maggie Thibodeau chose heartening as our word of the day. Heartening means to have qualities that inspire hope.
In his speech “Buying Bargains Brilliantly,” Peter Wright told us how he put himself through college by buying and reselling cars. Johnny Carr’s speech, his last from the Competent Communicator manual, discussed the responsibility a father has to his children. New member Jason Brooks delivered his icebreaker speech, in which he stressed the importance of leading by example.
Stacie Young responded to Table Topic Master Alyssa Mozingo’s question. Evaluator Leif Kolflat noted Peter’s ability to teach his audience and praised him for using sort sentences and visible examples. He recommended that Peter slow down when transitioning. Andrew Soloninka liked that Johnny began with a dramatic and encouraging opening and how he contrasted homes with and without fathers. He recommended that Johnny keep his hands to his side. Gwen Vass gave kudos to Jason for delivering an impromptu speech as his icebreaker. She recommended that he tell more about himself.
General Evaluator Brian Furches commended Sara for keeping the meeting going, praised Andrew for offering suggestions on avoiding filler words and noted how April’s phone helped out in an emergency. All evaluators complimented speakers on their strengths and suggested improvements.
