Today's Theme: Your Day in History

Our Toastmaster, Tom Presley, led our speech marathon today and provided the theme “Your Day in History” where Tom asked us to research our Birthday and share something that happened on that day.

Tom also gave us presented a new word of the day, “ditharambic,” which means wildly enthusiastic. Dean acted as time keeper and vote counter.

Alyssa Mozingo led off our speakers with “No New Year’s Resolution for Me.” Alyssa made a persuasive case that January 1 was a bad time to make resolutions and that March or September would be much better times or she suggested making a resolution on your Birthday like she does each August.

Lorenzo followed with an intriguing talk about the questionable timing of some stock market trading right before 9/11 in his speech, “Lies, Deception and the Truth.”

Wade then shared his story of losing a baby and the difference she’s made in his life in “Lane’s Gift.”

And Mike entertained us with a story about his encounter with Mr. Georges who owns the Little River Winery and Vinyard, noting the beautiful colors of the changing leaves as well as the different colored eyes of one of the guests.

Gwen, Brian, Johnny and Carrie evaluated and shared the following advice:

-- Connect intellectually or emotionally with your audience
-- Use the word “you” to connect with your audience
-- Speak with enthusiasm and a strong voice
-- Do not put your hands in your pockets when speaking
