Speech Marathon

Meeting Recap: September 30, 2010

The rain was falling heavy outside as Andrew Soloninka introduced Jillian Bowlin as the toastmaster for the Capital City Toastmaster’s quarterly speech marathon. We put traditional meeting roles aside and had extra speakers and evaluators to help club members reach their speaking goals. Sixteen people were in attendance.

Tom Presley stepped in as a last minute time keeper and kept the meeting on track. Carrie Karcher was the evaluator for Dean DiLillo and introduced his objectives for his speech, “Match the Hatch.” Dean compared the different types of fishing to the different types of sales styles and supported his reasons for moving away from still fishing to fly fishing.

Sari Salek introduced the second speaker, Mike Eaves. Mike shared the story of Bill and Ruth, a couple who was separated by death but brought back together through an Angel on Earth.

Trey Bason’s speech “Stop Hunger Now” was evaluated by Alyssa Mozingo and she gave a short synopsis of Trey’s objectives. Trey recounted his recent experience working with the organization Stop Hunger Now and encouraged each attendee of the meeting to visit them online at www.stophungernow.org and take action to bring food to the starving.

Andrew Soloninka gave an overview of April Young’s objectives for her speech “Why I love the farmer’s market and you should too.” April persuaded with power in her message of buying foods locally grown and supporting your local community.

Each of the evaluators then gave great feedback to the speakers and audience on how to make these four fabulous speeches even better.

Wade Hudson counted the votes while the two guests, Steven Folkes and Janet Atkinson, commented on the meeting and how they found out about the club.

Jillian presented awards to Sari Salek for best Evaluator and Mike Eaves for best speaker.
