Evaluation and Humorous Speech Contests
Meeting Recap: September 23, 2010
Twenty-six people attended Capital City Toastmasters' humorous speech and evaluation contests. Chris Richter was the contest chair and contest master and Dean DiLillo served as Seargant at Arms. Chris reviewed the rules for those competing in the humorous speech contest and began with Andrew Soloninka. Andrew recounted how he became addicted to coffee in his appropriately titled speech, “Coffee.” Stephen Beausang then delivered “Boredom Is Underrated” and Wade Hudson finished with “The Cold Shower.” If laughter is the best medicine, several people should have been cured during today’s meeting because it was truly filled humor.
Brian Simpson was the test speaker for the evaluation contest. Brian’s speech was titled, “Why Zig Ziglar Says 97% of Us Don’t Set Goals.” Jillian Bowlin and Martin Rock each had five minutes to prepare an evaluation and then competed for best club evaluator.
While the judges’ scores were tallied, Ted Feitshans (area 84 Governor) presented Capital City Toastmasters with gifts/awards for adding four new members so far this year. Tom announced the additional gifts will be received when the club reaches eight new members in the year.
The judges returned with the results and Chris announced that Wade Hudson and Martin Rock would be moving forward to the area contest this Saturday. Stephen Beausang came in second place and was to attend as a backup in the event Wade cannot compete.
Those assisting with the contest who were not mentioned above:
Chief Judge: Peter Tepfer
Judges: Tom Beaulieu, Tom Presley, April Young
Timers: Lorenzo King, Mike Eaves
Vote Counters: Sari Salek and Marian Hale
