Meeting Recap - June 18th

Submitted by Jean Gambrill

As always, Bob Crump was a very organized and masterly Toastmaster for the meeting. Bob's theme was quite appropriate as we approach Father’s Day weekend: "What is your favorite memory of your father?" or if you are father, "What is your favorite memory of being a father?"

Kelly Hook shared an inspiring poem by the classic American author Walt Whitman--they use the poem in the movie Dead Poets Society—O Me! O Life!

As Jokemaster, April used the theme and shared a humorous story about making her father a unique sandwich by taking what her father said literally.

Brian S. as Wordmaster gave us “harangue” which is a speech to a large group-or it may have a more negative connotation of a noisy speech or rant. Fun word!

Two speeches. Kerry Leeburn  gave a most interesting ice breaker through which we learned what his family means to him as well as the places he has lived.

Mikes Eaves presented a speech in which he pretended we were a NC agricultural board and he had to present a case to us of a farmer who did not meet the state department’s guidelines.

Kelly L. presented interesting table topics to Marian H., Tom, and Simon.  All used “harangue”!

Dean Di Lillo evaluated Mike and Ab Hakim evaluated Kerry.

Amy Dean took Ronnie’s place as grammarian. Both Amy as grammarian and Peter T. as general evaluator gave very helpful reports.  Particularly, Peter gave a great agenda suggestion.  He said that more experienced speakers could be placed later in the speaking order.  This way, newer speakers do not have to feel like they need to measure up to an experienced speaker.
